Welcome to Big Mountain Fire District Fire Department

The Big Mountain Fire District community will have the premier rural fire protection and emergency medical services in the state of Montana.

Our mission is to preserve and protect the quality of life and health within our rural fire district by providing the community and its visitors protection from fire; fire prevention education and community advocacy; structural and wildland firefighting; rescue and emergency medical services; timely emergency response in  evaluation and initial treatment of injuries and illnesses; safe and effective medical transportation. These services are delivered by an on-site, professional firefighting team on a 24/7/365 basis. Our firefighter/EMS team will have a safedesirable working environment with the equipment, training, and compensation necessary to promote excellence.

• Purpose – Big Mountain Fire District (BMFD) operates fire protection services to the Big Mountain community designed to prevent fires from starting, to extinguish fires, to prevent loss of life and property when a fire occurs and strives to confine a fire to the place it starts. BMFD also provides rescue, emergency medical services and transportation.

• Collaboration – We will collaborate with community property owners, visitors, Whitefish Mountain Resort, and mutual aid partners to meet the fire safety needs of our community. We will advocate for and engage with our community to provide mutually beneficial education and fire safety services.

• Integrity – We are committed to maintaining a well-trained, well-equipped complement of on-site, professional firefighters who provide compassionate, trustworthy service. We strive for mutual respect and partnership between our firefighters and the community.

• Professionalism – We expect a commitment to excellence from our board and firefighting team. We will focus on providing a high level of service to our community in a manner that instills trust and confidence.
